Williamsburg is the westernmost city in the Hampton Roads region. Some residents choose to commute further west to urban Richmond or east to Newport News while residing in the smaller town of Williamsburg. Williamsburg is full of many charming neighborhoods, ranging from historic and charming to sleek and modern. Tourists and residents alike love to take advantage of well known Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg, and Historic Jamestowne. Also, Great Wolf Lodge has become a great place for a staycation (TripAdvisor’s Top 25 Hotels for Families). The Muscarelle Museum has made an international name for itself as an organizer of eye-catching, scholarly exhibits featuring Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, and Michelangelo.

In addition to all of the activities, safe neighborhoods and excellent schools bring families to Williamsburg. Jamestown High School and Matoaka Elementary School each earned a 2018 Distinguished Achievement Award. Williamsburg has 20 public schools and 7 private schools with an average of 15 pupils per teacher. Children have many recreation programs to select from with adult and youth leagues for just about any sport you can imagine. Enjoy the amenities at the city’s Quarterpath Rec Center or the county’s James City County Recreation Center.

Cycle your way around the area’s scenic landscapes. With 109 miles of bicycle paths, Williamsburg has been named a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. The Rec department also offers kayaking and fishing at Waller Mill Park. If the city doesn’t offer a program, check out the Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex (WISC). It is home to a turf indoor field, a fully equipped Fitness Center, a first class Team Gymnastics Center, Academy Gymnastics Center, Dance & Karate Studio, and Kids Club.

Williamsburg is a Golf lovers dream. Three Williamsburg golf courses are featured in Golf Digest’s list of the Best Golf Courses in Virginia: Kingsmill Resort & Golf Course, Golden Horseshoe Golf Course, and new for this year, Two Rivers Golf Course. Kingsmill and Golden Horseshoe also made Golfweek’s list for Virginia of the Best Courses You Can Play in each state. Courses also include Ford’s Colony Kiskiack, Colonial Heritage, Deer Cove, and Williamsburg National.

Do you prefer music and festivals? Every autumn visit Pumpkinville in Toano, VA or James Riverfest in late September at the Jamestown Beach Event Park. From March to December, enjoy tunes at “2nd Sunday’s Art & Music Festival” in Merchants Square. Williamsburg native, Bruce Hornsby hosts Funhouse Fest in collaboration with the Virginia Arts Festival each summer and all year long you can visit the Virginia Musical Museum to learn more about Virginian musicians.

A vibrant food scene is permeating Williamsburg, with exciting new eateries, long-time staples, breweries, and even distilleries recently popping up. Locals love Sal’s By Victor, Aromas Coffeehouse and Ichiban. According to Thrillist.com, the best ‘cue in Virginia is served at Pierce’s Pitt Bar-B-Que.
